i have recently obtained a copy of the dcp program which allows the pc to speak to other machines with uucp. however, i am having difficulty in getting the thing to work properly. this program performs the dialing and connecting properly, but when the uucp is initiated, the thing times out and hangs up. is there some key setup procedure that i am missing out on? thankx for any info. mike mitchell myxm@lanl.gov ...!cmcl2!lanl!myxm

I am not familiar with dcp specifically, but I have worked with another such program floating about the Public Domain called Uclone. Whenever it called out, it produced a file of debug information similar to uucico's '-x' switch. I would suggest you investigate if dcp does the same. When I first attempted to get Uclone to work it also would time out, checking the debug file revealed that the program was waiting for "Shere sitename" from the slave system, whereas any uucp I have ever encountered only would send "Shere". At that point I edited the source so it would only expect "Shere", it then worked (such as it was). The only other possible problem that I can think of is a problem with your login string. Email me some further info and/or questions and I will provide whatever help I can. --- Jack F.
