Someone suggested using the Disk Index from Norton Utilities' "SI"
program to determine how different interleave factors effect disk
performance on a PC6300(+). Since no one jumped on the suggestion, I
finally gave it a try. Results follow. Apply your own interpretation.
AT&T MS-DOS 3.20 was used for both. The PC6300 is equipped with a 10Mb
disk and is an early machine (no idea what drive or controller
manufacturer). The Plus is equipped with a 40Mb drive.
Interleave Disk Index
Factor 6300 6300+
========== ===== =====
2 0.5 -->2.8
3 0.5 2.8
4 0.5 2.2
5 -->1.2 1.9
6 1.1 1.6
Personally, I'm going to use those marked, 2 for the Plus and 5 for the
PC6300.
