[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Public domain TAR and COMPRESS?

gleicher@duke.cs.duke.edu (Michael Gleicher) (08/19/87)

Does anyone know where I can get a public domain TAR and COMPRESS that
would run on the PC? I just need it to deal with files, not tapes.

Thanks,

Mike

I've a compress binary I can uuencode and mail to you. As for tar: not PD,
you can spend $79.95 on Minix and get a tar which can be compiled under DOS.

I have just finished porting John Gilmore's PD Tar to DOS.
I need to do a little more testing and then I will send out the execuatable
and patches for it. The port was done under MCS 4.0
