Hello, Does anyone have any experience with putting a 1.2M drive in an IBM/XT? We have gotten a hold of a Teac FD-55GFV and I am interested in finding out how one might throw one of these into an Old Xt. I have tried various jumpper combinations and variations on a line in my config.sys file (device = c:\dos\driver.sys /d:1 /h:2 /t:80 /s:15 /c /f:1) I am attempting to do this with Dos 3.3, but if necessary, I can rustle an older copy of Dos. I also have Jformat, but don't even have a clue what to do with this one... Appreciate any help on this one. Thanx Mike Mitchell myxm@lanl.gov ...!cmcl2!lanl!myxm

You need a different controller for this. I've seen them advertised in the $ 100 range. Mike Berger Center for Advanced Study University of Illinois berger@clio.las.uiuc.edu {ihnp4 | convex | pur-ee}!uiucuxc!clio!berger

I did it by buying a 1.2 M drive from Weltec in Irvine, Ca for $149.00
It runs great in regular pc/xt (mine is a Deskpro). You install it with
a .sys file but it still works from fastback and pctools as unit 1 or
whatrever. As far as I know you have to buy a new controller to use your
Teac, but I have seen one for $39 which allows 4 mixed floppys of most any
type.
