Per request, here is thumbnail of data in Unix/World Sept '87
pg. 109 om MPE/386. Available w Phoenix or special BIOS which
speeds up DOS-MERGE and VP/ix (multiple Dos shells under Unix )
by factor of 10. Board specially designed for Unix System V.3
port by AT&T/Intel/Micro-Port. 16 or 20 Mhz. clock. 2 ser., 1 par.
on motherboard. 1 or 4 Mbyte mem. on MB. 8 8-bit, 6 16-bit, and
2 32-bit slots.

Options:

80837 or Weitek 1165/1167 coprocessor. Intel 80385
four way cache. Supports high burst rate disk i/o (10 to 20 Mbytes
is my guess) 4,8, or 12 Mbyte expansion memory card x 32 bits. 6 serial
port card, 1660x1200 graphics card via Intel 82786, disk and tape BU.

Price:

Motherboard is less than $1000. Full system w 8 Mbyte RAM, 140 Mbyte
disk, 125 Mbyte tape BU, and 8 serial ports -- $7500. (I don't know
whether this includes Microport SysV.3 and 8 port license but thats
around $500 total if it's not)

My favorite: Motherboard with Adaptek's new AT SCSI board based on
AIC-6250 SCSI board (5 Mbytes) tied to two Vertex V190 disks and a SCSI tape.
With the 2,7 RLL this gives 210 Mbytes for about $1800 at 2.5 Mbytes, 19 ms
access and 1:1 interleave.

Disclaimer: The only connection I have with Bell is that I'm saving my
money for a MPE/386.
