[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Color of HD front panels

jbs@eddie.MIT.EDU (Jeff Siegal) (08/24/87)

I'm going to add a hard disk to my AST/Premium 286, but I'm a bit
hesitant to add one with a black front panel (all I've seen), since
everything else on the system (including the floppy) is a matching
grey. Any suggestions (other than a hard-card, which I've thought of,
but am not satisfied with that solution)?

Please reply by mail to the Reply-to address above.

Buy grey paint.

Is this computer going to be 1) in the movies, 2) in an add, 3) to show
off to mother?

Abhor the thought of "fashion designed computers".

...I resent this suggestion. As one who has had to fashion design computers
(from the Commode-Door to the IBM) countless times, I've learned just how bland
the standard grey and beige choices are.

...my suggestion to ANYONE would be, if you truly hate your PC's color scheme,
is to look at the environ yu're using it in, and repaint it to match. For the
outer case, use Krylon in the color you want, then a clear coat (grey serves as a really good primer...heh) or two. For the keyboard, I've used Krylon in a
pinch, but most of the time I've left the keyboard as-is (too much trouble to
remove all the buttons and repaint...).

...as for good color schemes, DON'T use all flat black! That absorbs heat like
you would NOT believe. Try a navy blue with a gloss Black or Grey for a majorityblue office inviron, for one example. Around here, this fits in with most of
the offices quite well (though the department chairman want'S something along
the lines of Burnt Orange & Bright White...he'll probably get wood paneling or
Fluorescent Orange with Green trim...)

Hey, why not just paint all cars black? While we're at it, let's do houses
too! :-)

You don't have to be a "fashion designer" to appreciate aesthetics, even if
you're the only one who will see it.
