[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Unknown Hardware Vendors

rich@devvax.JPL.NASA.GOV (Richard Pettit) (09/09/87)

Ever want to get a piece of hardware and find out that since you're
not a fortune 500 company (I, personally, am not) that you have to send
cash up front. Of course you have.

Has anyone ever heard of Scientific Storage Technology of Spofford, NH ?
They make a line of computers called Quantus. They have a really budget
80386 machine but I just cannot bring myself to send them $3000.00 when
I've never heard of the place before. They require cash first, computer
later. If you (Yes, you!) have ever dealt with this company and they,
indeed, really exist, could you please drop me a note. I'd hate to
have to spend more cash than I need to. Also, if you have any idea whether
or not their hardware is any good, could you also include that.

I'd do the same for you. Thanks.

I have talked to VESTA computers, and they seem to have a rather nice
box for $2695, including everything but the monitor. It has a 40MB disk,
1S, 1P, and a mono adaptor. 1 MB on borad, room for 1 more ($200) before
you need a bigger board.

Two people in the unix groups have been satisfied with these for Xenix,
and a friend of mine is going to order one for technical publishing.

I have *not* tried one yet, but when I checked the company they gave two
major Computerland stores as reference, and both were satisfied. I may
get one to run a BBS when I finally get a working 386 UNIX of some type.

These people will take an order COD certified check, so at least you
will see a box before you hand over the money.

Disclamer: I don't make any money on these unless you buy it from my
wife.
