[net.general] Mailing responses to articles

rgt@lanl-a.UUCP (07/12/84)

Hi.

I just printed out the list of currently active USENET
newsgroups, and find it very helpful. I am relatively new to the
net, and do not know how to send mail messages. I tried to send
one to the poster of an article using the mail response, but the
machine told me that the path was too long. How do you know to
set up a path for mailing articles to another user? For instance,
corrections, additions, etc. to the list be reported to alb.
How do I set up a path to you? Is there a map of the UUCP mail
links anywhere?

Also, I would like to recommend a newsgroup or message
center for new users. Maybe net.general or some group that all
new users would get by default. This would provide them (us)
with information on how to best use the net, without getting
flames from all kinds of people telling them (us) how dumb we are.
It would also tell how to mail to the people on the net.

	Any help would be appreciated.

PS. I tried mailing this to alb@alice because that seems like
an ARPANET address. You said to mail it to research!alb, but
I would need to know a path from lanl to there, and I have not
got a clue as to how to get it there.
