[comp.sys.ibm.pc] doubling HD capacity?

afg@gass.UUCP (Andrew Ginter) (09/28/87)

Is there anyone out there who knows about hard disk controllers which
claim to double the capacity of existing hard drives? I have in front
of me an ad from Perstor Systems Inc which claims that it's controllers
"use ARLL technology to DOUBLE the capacity of MFM and RLL drives".

What is ARLL? What are the implications of using an ARLL controller
rather than a standard controller? Is anyone other than Perstor making
products like this? Does anyone know if the Perstor or any other "ARLL"
controller will work on an AT clone running Microport SysV/AT?

Please reply directly to me at the address in the signature below. I
will wait a week or two and summarize to the net the responses I
receive. Thanks!

Andrew
