Reply-To: Well, I seem to have stoked the coals of the eternal flame for my *WRONG* posting regarding NOPS after 2-byte relative jumps. I mistakenly said that NOPS are always executed and take some processing time. However, as many people have pointed out, in the context of the original article, the NOPS are never executed, and thus cannot in any way whatsoever increase execution time. What I was trying to point out was that the NOPS are always executed *whenever they are encountered*. Of course after a jump, they are never encountered. I made a mistake. My apologies to the net. ( I won't do it again :-) ) A case of my fingers hitting the 'f' key before my mind has fully analyzed all the input data. <matchstick ignites> Tell me I'm wrong, that I posted too quickly, or that I should rethink what I have said. However, I resent being told that I should read a book on 8086 programming, as some kind soul pointed out his favorite text book to me. <foof!> Once again, my apologies, specifically now to Mr. Ching, the original poster of the article. PS: I did read the article. I just didn't *read* it. -- +-------------------+--------------------------------------------------------+ | Brian Onn | UUCP:..!{uunet!mnetor, watmath!utai}!lsuc!ncrcan!brian | | NCR Canada Ltd. | INTERNET: brian@ncrcan.UUCP | +-------------------+--------------------------------------------------------+
