[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Determining Video Memory Address

mike@acich.UUCP (Mike Katz @ Automated Concepts Inc..) (10/19/87)

Having seed several discussions about how to determine where the video memory
is address in PC compatible machines I thought that I would add my 2 cents.

Output to stdout (using dos calls or a higher level language) an identifiable
string. Then search for it at B000:0000 for monochrome or B800:0000 for CGA
compatible color. Not only will this give you the address of the video memory
it will give you the currently active monitor in dual monitor systems.

This routine will not work with any graphics board that is in grpahics mode.
