[comp.sys.ibm.pc] DTC hard disk controller

boon@geac.UUCP (10/20/87)

I have a hard disk controller which will accept the following
hard disk according to an appendix page I got.

  -------------------------------------------------------------------------

 ** No manufacturer given

There are 2 chip with plastic suckers, one with the marker BXD5 1983 DTC,
 the other has KIM11.

I was using the controller with the CDC WREN 40 Meg drive. After a low level
format I got 60 Meg. How come ?? and Why ??. The low level format was done with
the utilities given with the CDC drive with switch settings 1,3,7. After using
the hard drive for about 18 months, it suffered a head crash I think ( grinding
sound on boot ).

   My questions are :-
	  1) What kind of hard drive can I used besides those specified,
especially those with higher access times and different cylinder
	     and head settings ?
	  2) How can I get a complete manuel for this controller ?
	  3) What are the meanings of the dip switch settings ? How about
switches 2,4,5,6 - what are they used for ?
	  4) Can I used Vfeature or Speedstor* in conjunction with any hard
	     disk ?
	  5) Do Speedstor and Vfeature serve the same purpose ? And if so
	     which is better ?

   All reply via email please.
   Thanks to all involved.
