[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Need recommendation for PC multifunction card

jeff@drexel.UUCP (Jeff White) (10/29/87)

I'm looking for a multifunction board for a Tandy 1200HD (PC compat.) for
one of the clients I work for. I need the following things:

  1. Dual serial ports - the computer will be directly connected to two
different computers, so I figure having 2 ports is easier (and looks
better) than an AB switch (assuming the cost is not much more than 1
port and an AB switch, which is about $50). The ports MUST be
configurable as COM's 3 and 4, as there is already a 2400 modem and
a Watson voice mail system in the system, and the software for each only
allows the boards to be either COM's 1 or 2. DB25 connectors would be
     preferable.
  2. Clock/calendar - basically so that timestamping of files would be
accurate (who bothers to manually set the time at bootup).

The system already has 640k on the motherboard, and a parallel port, so
neither of these would be necessary on the new board. I would prefer
recommending something that was made by a name brand (AST, Everex, etc.)
company and not a no-frills, foreign one, since I would like to guarantee
as much as possible that they will be able to get support and service for
it if it ever needs it.
Please reply via email or post to the tandy group, as I normally don't
read the ibm group. Thanks to all.
