Hello, world Does anyone out there have any knowledge of the 286 clone made by FIVESTAR in Dallas TX. The specs include a 12 port expansion bus (4 8-bit and 8 16-bit, 2 each are half card slots), cpu-on-a-card Zenith style, which can be a 10 or 12 MHz 286, or a 16 MHz 386 card. The unit is powered by a 238 watt supply and includes 2 serial and 1 parallel ports. It comes with 640K, DOS Basic and Manuals. The nice thing about this machine (apart from its $1295 base price) is that it has six drive bays, four of which are accessable from the outside--useful for extra tape or 3 1/2in drives without having to sacrifice any of your drive space. In the light of recent postings documenting troublesome purchases I would like to hear from anyone who has had dealings with this company or their machines (PC Mag reviewed their 286 10MHz offering, seemed to like it) Post here if you believe others should know, otherwise E-mail me (ouch!) In my personal opinion, it is a complete disaster. I went through several of them. Each was wired differently, had different BIOSes, didn't match the docs, etc. Calls to their tech. support and quality control people showed a distinct lack of knowledge of what they were doing. They tried to be as helpful as possible (FedEx-ing replacements at n/c, etc.), but that doesn't make up for selling an unstable product which does not function properly. If anyone needs additional/more specific info, please email. -- Mark D.
