We are some of the lucky people who just received the wonderful Microsoft C compiler version 5.0. After an easy installation, which is quite a change, it ran smoothly and actually did recompile some of my programs which ran properly later on... One good point at least... I however have a few gripes, at first: -/ The MSC command does not exist anymore. As we are not using the Microsoft make, it's a lot easier to change Makefiles which have only one call to MSC, but... -/ Microsoft sent out a lot of press releases where the highligh was the more compact code generated by the new version. The first thing I did was of course to check that by compiling a large program. The code size with 4.0 was 6135, in hex, and the new size with 5.0 is 610A... It's an improvement, but I would not faint because of that... On the good side: a cute graphic library, Quick C which is quite nice for quick and dirty stuff, and new library functions to access DOS which could finally make MASM an historic landmark... ========================================================================= Herve Siegrist, TITN Inc. 24301 Southland Dr. Suite 200, Hayward, CA 94545 (415) 785-5970 UUCP: (decvax|ucbvax|ihnp4)!decwrl!sun!plx!titn!herve ========================================================================= -- ========================================================================= Herve Siegrist, TITN Inc. 24301 Southland Dr. Suite 200, Hayward, CA 94545 (415) 785-5970 UUCP: (decvax|ucbvax|ihnp4)!decwrl!sun!plx!titn!herve =========================================================================
