[net.music] Southside Johnny

stuart@ssc-vax.UUCP (Stuart Lewis) (04/20/84)

In the interest of turning some of our readers on to something new, I have
the following suggestion. First, if you're not into the Springsteen type
of music, or the east coast 'brassy' mode of rock 'n roll, read no further.
If you do, may I suggest the group "Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes".
Maybe you're already aware of them. I happened onto them by chance and
immediatly bought every album of theirs' I could find. I can claim only 2
other groups or performers that I buy "ear-unheard".

Many of the numbers they perform were in fact written by Springsteen just
for them. Miami Steve VanZandt, for a while, moonlit as both a Juke and as
an E-Streeter. Their latest album is definatly not amoung the best they have
produced ("Trash It Up").

If you are a Springsteener I would urge you to get "We're Havin' A Party",
"The Jukes", "Hearts Of Stone", or their double live album "Reach Up And
Touch The Sky". (Although I have all of their albums, I may not be correct
on some of these titles. I usually get the bug and saturate my stereo with
their music for a couple of weeks and then go without for a few months. This
is toward the end of one of those periods and its been a while since I've
played any!). You're safe with one of their earlier albums from '77-'78 or
so. Try one and you'll be hooked.
