Like many people these days (I suspect) I started using UNIX about five years ago as an undergraduate. I am not, and have to intention of becoming, a programmer. I learned to use UNIX because it was available and stayed with it because it works -- as we all know -- very well. When it came time to buy a micro I decided that I wanted it to look familiar and so I purchased the MKS Toolkit software to go with it. I find the software interesting, quite useful, and with some interesting differences compared to the 4.3 BSD I am used to. I wonder how many other people out there are in similar circumstances? How many of you are using the MKS vi editor and wonder why it goes to the disk when you tell it to delete a character with "x" but not when you delete a line with "dd". Also, I wonder how many of you are trying to run it on a laptop without the advantage of a hardisk and what strategies you've developed to adjust the software. So, if these, or other issues intrigue you and you want to discuss them, drop me a line and I will start and monitor a mailing list. Send your stuff to: bjones@sdcsvax.ucsd.edu Thanks, Bruce --
