For reasons unknown to me, uuencode and uudecode were not on my UNIX system until about a month ago (when I grabbed sources off the net and gave them to our system administrator). Before that, I downloaded all .uue files and decoded them on my PC with no problems. These encoded files frequently include text. I still frequently download and then decode because I want to keep the explanations at the front of posted notes and can more easily extract them with my PC editor (vi is not my favorite). I have used a number of PC uudecode programs on the PC (all grabbed from the net) and all seem to work just fine. Seems like this should not be so if you are correct.
