I've been pondering this question for awhile, and although I may be flamed for posting something which may seem to be stupid or irrelevant, I'm doing it because it intrigues me. I'd like to know if other net-people have experienced the following: After having heard one version of a particular musical selection (for example, the "studio" version), an individual gets the chance to hear a slightly different version (perhaps a "live" version or a cover of the selection done by a different artist) and comes to the conclusion that one version is quite definitely BETTER (whatever that may mean is of course particular to the individual experiencing the phenomenon) than the other. I've had this happen to me many times, and the answer has been consistent across the board; however, in order to maintain "experimental validity," I won't tell you WHICH version sounds better. If anyone else has experienced this phenomenon, write in and I'll summarise on the net; PLEASE DON'T POST as your opinion will no doubt affect others. I suppose the phenomenon could be extended to other media such as film; if you have experienced an analogue in another media format, please let me know. I'll summarise if there's enough interest to warrant it. thanks, -- --Rob Rosen ...ucbvax!rosen rosen@ucbvax.berkeley.edu
