[net.general] TEST! TEST! OHMYGOSH! A TEST!

chuqui@nsc.UUCP (Chuq) (08/26/84)

In the last two weeks I have seen something like six messages in
net.general that say (and I quote) 'test'. What's wrong, isn't net.test
GOOD enough for you anymore? Must you inflict your own painful lack of
knowledge upon the rest of the world and prove yourselves to be the
incompents we see you as? Is there some inherent inability in your brains
that make it impossible for you to realize that net.general is not where
you should be testing your software, your brains (or lack of them) or your
fingers? Do you REALIZE that your pithy comment, that 'TEST!' will go out
to such wonderful reaches as Europe, to South Korea, to Austrailia? Do you
have any conception how many otherwise calm, cool, and mature individuals
take one look at those wonderfully deep and incisive articles and throw
their terminals out the window? How many nervous breakdowns are caused
every time that plaintive call 'Just a test, don't read this article' shows
up in a group set up specifically and ONLY for things that everyone should
be intersted in reading? If you don't know what you are doing, please,
please, PLEASE stay off the net and don't force your ignorance upon us.
There are documents around that will help you learn, and there are people
at your site that can show you. Fumbling around will simply cause lots of
innocent people irritation and anguish, and your names will be forever
placed in the hopper of idiots to be pulled forth and used when we see your
resume's on our desk.

If you don't know what you are doing, DON'T DO IT! Find someone to help you
figure it out. Fumbling around just makes life miserable for everyone.

And people wonder why we tried to nuke net.general....

Dreams, dreams, enchanter! Gone with the harp's echo when the strings fall
mute; with the flame's shadow when the fire dies. Be still, and listen.
