Well, everyone. It is now time for you to make up your mind. Is MS-DOS 3.3 the last version or not. Many people have said that it is; others have said that it isn't. Which is it? I'm looking for someone who knows what they are talking about, if such a person truly exists (and can prove it). Michael Niehaus UUCP: ...!{uunet,pur-ee,iuvax}!bsu-cs!mithomas

Microsoft had already planned to roll in the Compaq-inspired support for greater-than-32MB hard disks that Compaq developed jointly with Microsoft, thus engendering 3.3x (x being a digit on the order of 1-3). However, the Desqview competition has encouraged Microsoft to come out with DOS support for extended memory and limited multitasking similar to the Desqview product. There is rumor that these features may appear in two steps, with the final product being 3.4 sometime between late spring and mid summer. I do not have any "insider" info, but trade rags abound with discussions of these rumors, some with quotations from (reliable?) Microsoft sources.

I don't have any definitive information, but it may well be tht 3.3 is the last version from Microsoft (which is nice, in a way, since it leaves the market open for MS-DOS workalikes from competing vendors). -- Bernie Roehl, University of Waterloo Electrical Engineering Dept Mail: broehl@watdcsu.waterloo{.edu,.csnet,.cdn} BangPath: {allegra, decvax, utzoo, clyde}!watmath!watdcsu!broehl Voice: (519) 745-4419 [home] (519) 885-1211 x 2607 [work]
