[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Find Bad Sectors...

sandy@uhmanoa.UUCP (Sandy Phipps) (12/15/87)

Well, thanks to everyone who has responded to my original posting
about 'finding bad sectors' and marking them as such. I have received
a lot of responses, most of which suggested using Norton Utilities DiskTest.
This does just what I wanted at the time of posting. A couple of
other suggestions were 'findbad' on some BBs. I had a copy of this while
ago but never got around to using it. Also there was a program 'Dfixer'
which I have not gotten.

Regarding the fact that I found the sector while using 'Fastback'.
Well -- I have been using it for while now on my RLL St-238, and it has not
caused any problems. When I got the disk there were no Manufacturer identified
bad sectors, but right away a had a couple that came and went (very strange),
but never got around to marking them - now I have I think everything should
be back to running normally.

Thanks to all who responded.
