I'm posting for a friend. He is looking for any information about DBase III+ clones. Any comment to which is better and where to find it is what he is seeking. He has mentioned two to me that even the names escape me; something like "wompum" and "dbxl". Please mail any comments, or where to find such software to me. Apparently, he doesn't want the actual DBase III software, just a clone. All responses will be greatly appreciated. -- Paul Palacios UUCP: {cbosgd, hplabs!hp-sdd, sdcsvax, nosc}!crash!portnoy!paul POBox 842,(CA) INET: paul@portnoy.cts.com VOICE: wk:(619)458-0230 Bonita, 92002 ARPA: crash!portnoy!paul@nosc.mil hm:(619)420-5776

I was one of the Beta testers for the product and I believe it has all the bugs out now. The only problem is that it is a memory hog. You should have 512K RAM free if you want to execute any external commands. They are supposed to be working on optimization currently. The speeds are compatible with dBASE, it runs all of the code, and has some very nice extensions. The retail cost is $169 and you can pick it up for a little as $80. Wordtech Systems produces it and a compiler for dBASE called Quicksilver. It is probably one of the top three dBASE compilers. Their phone number is (415)254-0900. PaperBack software produces a dBASE 3+ clone called VP-Info. I would not suggest buying it though. It is quite buggy and is not 100% command compatible with dBASE III. It is more of a mixture between version II and III. The only other way to go is too buy a compiler (Foxbase, Quicksilver, dBASE to C, etc), but these are normally pretty expensive. Bill Wilson
