[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Hardware Debuggers

paul@crash.cts.com (Paul Palacios) (12/18/87)

I'm looking for any comments regarding hardware debuggers for the IBMPC
family of computers (AT,XT,clones,etc.). So far I've heard some things
about the ATRON debugger and some on the PERISCOPE. I am interested in
finding out more information on these or any others that should be
conisidered for purchase. If anyone has any information regarding this,
please post or send mail.

I've used the ATRON debugger a fair amount and found that it works fairly
well. Some of the user interface is a bit clunky...you have to type a '.'
(period) at the start of each symbol name. I've never used their source
option. But it helped me debug some TSR programs that I probably never
would have been able to debug any other way.

I think they only claim it to work with certain systems, for instance
real IBM computers, and Compaq's. It *doesn't* work in the Everex AT clone,
which my company has very many of, so we have to use it in our one true
IBM PC/AT.
