[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Repost of Kermit Binary Enclosed

tr@wind.bellcore.com (tom reingold) (12/30/87)

Again, this is not a binary. Parts 2 through 4 are what you really
want. But please read on.

Ok, I checked out why nobody got the first uuencoded part of Kermit.
At first, it seemed odd because I never got any error messages,
not from Pnews and not from any machine's mail daemon. I checked
the file posted locally and saw that the lost portion was over
40,000 bytes long. Aha. Some (or all) backbone sites refuse to
pass along files longer than 40,000 bytes long.

Therefore, the entire thing is going to be split DIFFERENTLY and
reposted!

The version is 2.29C but is different from two previous versions
numbered the very same way. As far as I know -- and I don't know
very far -- this is the first version of any version (!) with the
Tektronix support. Soon, we will have 2.30 which is expected to
be fairly stable. I haven't found any problems with this, however.

I don't know how to handle the doc files. They are big and I don't
know of any file that discusses the differences between the new
version and the recent versions.

The document in Scribe format is 186320 bytes long. (Scribe is a
formatter, like troff, but another leading brand.) The output
file, formatted for a dump printer or tty is 231958. If anyone
has an idea for distributing either of these formats to those who
don't have Arpanet ftp or Bitnet server access, suggest it.
