[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Word Question

mireley@eecae.UUCP (John Mireley) (01/06/88)

Is it possible to subscript and superscript a single character in Word?

I know about using half line spacing to do it, but that requires using a
fixed pitch font.

We are using Ver. 4.0. Any suggestions are appreciated.

In Word on the PC, you first highlight the characters then select
Format Character and make the super or subscript selection yes.

Of course, whether this all works or not, depends on your
printer's capabilities. You did not mention what printer you are
using or if you have made a custom driver for it. If the printer
does support half line feeds but not reverse line feeds, then
Word can print the superscripts first, carraige return, then the
normal letters, carraige return, then the subscripts. A half
line feed will accompany each CR.

To apply any standard format to a single char using the ALT-<x> method you
must zap the character twice--place the cursor on the char, press the Alt
key and then 'Shift +' for superscript, or '-' for subscript; then do it
AGAIN! An alternate method is to press: Esc F(ormat) C(haracter). Then
tab down to the <Normal Super Sub> field, press your spacebar until
the appropriate item is selected, then press Enter. Hope this helps.
