[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Using a write-protect tab on Word Perfect to prevent problems

mithomas@bsu-cs.UUCP (Michael Thomas Niehaus) (01/13/88)

Does anyone know of a way to use Word Perfect with a write protect tab
on the system disk? Apparently, Word Perfect alters its own EXE file,
so it chokes when there is a tab on the disk. We have tried many things:
     RAMdisks
     Various PATH= statements
Including renaming the WP.exe file, copying it to a RAmdisk,
setting path=d: (the RAMdisk), renaming D:'s WP file to WP.EXE
then typing WP at the A prompt. Not only doesn't this work, but it
also eats up quite a bit of memory (we 'only' have 640K to spare).
We want to do this because all copies (legal, or course) in the computer
lab we operate are extrememly vulnerable to user errors, such as deleting
required files, etc. We are also concerned about the virus spreading to
our labs. Anyone have any other suggestions?
