My father has a vintage IBM PC, bought long ago when 128K seemed like enough memory for the forseeable future. He has since upgraded the memory to 256K using 64K chips on the motherboard. Now he has the need to upgrade to 640K. My question is: what is the most cost effective way to do this ? Can the 64K chips be swapped out for 256K chips on the motherboard, or is a memory expansion board the only way to boost memory ? If so, are there any recommended (just) memory boards, without other features like parallel/serial ports, clock, etc. ?
