[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Info about Prodigy 386 system?

murphy@pur-phy (William J. Murphy) (01/26/88)

I'm considering purchasing a computer from a company called Prodigy
Microsystems based out of Greensboro NC. They are offering what
seems to be an incredible system:
    -20 Mhz 80386
-Chips and technologies set w/Phoenix BIOS
    -40 Meg hard disk
    -1.2 Meg floppy
-2 Meg RAM installed on motherboard
    -monochrome TTL monitor
    -no operating system

What I am wondering is, 1) Is this a reliable company? 2)Are there any reviews
of this machine available? 3) Since I can't afford a UNIX system, what DOS
system seems to be the best (PC-MOS/386, Concurrent DOS/386, or MS-DOS 3.3)?
4) If no software comes (i.e. setup software) with it what is necessary to
get it up and running?

I'm not a hardware junkie, but do know a few locally. Anyhow, I wish to
get this machine for number crunching, and am considering MSC5.0, so it
is necessary that the OS must run MSC 5.0, as well as Turbo Pascal.
Please no comments about Turbo C or deragatory ones about TPascal, I need
the compatability with previously written software.

Please e-mail responses to me, and I will summarize your remarks.
