I just received my copy of Microsoft C 5.0 Library source code, and its license puts to rest once and for all the issue of including Microsoft's copyright notice on your disk label and sign-on screen. They clearly don't include libraries in thier definition of run-time system, since the provision included with the library states: 2. GRANT OF LICENSE TO DISTRIBUTE LIBRARY MODULES. Microsoft grants to you the royalty-free right to reporduce and distribute the LIBRARY(ies) provded that you (a) distribute the LIBRARY(ies) only in executable form as part of your software product(s), (b) do not use Microsoft's name, logo, or trademarks to market your software product(s), (c) agree to indemnify, hold harmless, and defend Microsoft from and against any claims or lawsuits, including attorney's fees, that arise or result from such distribution, and (d) otherwise compy with this Microsoft Compiler Library License Agreement. There is no mention anywhere else in the license about including copyright notices or anything else. Bruce Wampler Reference Software, Inc.
