[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Computer Conferencing for PC User Group

dcw@doc.ic.ac.uk.UUCP (01/15/88)

Hello everyone,

I have a little request to make: I hope these newsgroups
are reasonably appropriate [if they are not, my humblest
	apologies].

A friend of mine is about to become responsible for running
a bulletin board for IBM PC users.
He already runs a simple one-simultaneous-user FIDO system,
but feels that he needs a more powerful system.
He is keen on going all the way over to a computer conferencing
system, and wonders what pre-written software [public domain,
shareware, or commercial] is on offer.

He intends to run such a beast on a single PC-AT, or possibly
386 machine. He can get 8 or 16 modems, and is confident that
he can set them up as a single phone-line which selects the
	first unused modem.

If necessary, he will write [or commission] such a system,
but obviously he would prefer not to.

He has heard of a system called Chairman. I have heard of
	CoSy [the BIX system??].
Can anyone give us more information on these or other systems?
What O/S do they run on [do they run on PC's at all?]

Please reply by mail, and if there's much interest I'll summarise
any info I get.... [if you can't mail to me, for any reason,
	then post an article]

Thanks in advance for any information,

			Duncan White.

It sounds like your friend is describing TBBS v2.0m rather precisely.
Have him contact eSoft at (303)-699-6565 for more information, or he
could look around his area for BBS's that happen to be running TBBS.
TBBS also talks to the international FidoNet, which has at least one
gateway to UseNet - I'm writing this on a FidoNet BBS.
OR, he could talk to bblue@crash.CTS.COM about obtaining a copy of Pnet
to run under UNIX - that package talks DIRECTLY to Usenet, if that's
important to him.
