Does anyone have information or actual experience in upgrading a PC/XT to an AT (286) class (or even 386 class) machine? I have gathered some information regarding this from manufacturers who produce such products. Now these (and this is what I want to do) are PC/XT size 286 motherboards which are suppose to be 100% compatible replacement (just pop out your old mother- board and pop this one in). They cost around $350 and up depending on memory, clock speed, and other features. I have an IBM portable PC which is what I plan on upgrading. If anyone has more information on this, please reply. Thanks in advanced. (also, does anyone know what I can do with the old motherboard after I take it out?) One more question: I need some technical information about installing an external hard drive, parts needed, etc. Does one hook it up to the port on the floppy controller card? (What is that port for anyways? Does anyone have the pin outs?) Thanks all in advanced.
