I have a NEC P2200, which fits most of your qualifications nicely. I doubt you are going to be able to get a decent 24 pin printer for $300.00. The NEC is regularly discounted for approx. $370.00 (I got mine for $368.00 when I worked at a computer store part time.) It supports the Epson LQ-series as well as the FX series. It also supports the NEC P line (P6, P7 etc). Has a bidirectional tractor built in. Stores your printer settings in NVRAM. Print quality is first rate. Has a nifty slot in the front for single sheet feeding. I am very happy with it. If I had to complain about anything, it would be it's noise. It makes a whining sound when printing in NLQ mode. Fine for home use, but I would get a sound shield for office use. You may also want to see if you can find a Epson LQ 800, which has been replaced by the LQ 850. Doesn't come with a tractor, but you may be able to get a good deal on one since it has been discontinued. I know that a couple of places are advertising the LQ1000 in Computer Shopper. You may be able to get a decent price ($400 -$450). --hal

As a long-time laser printer user, I was impressed with the print quality. (The last dot matrix printer I used had only 9 pins... nobody had thought of 24 pin print heads back then.) MicroStar also had some reasonable priced PC clones. Yes, this sounds like a plug, but no, I'm not affiliated with them. Jonathan E.
