I have said this several times and read it too: I didn't need to know about this until now and have therefore discarded all messages on the subject. Now I need to know. A lot of discussion went by on C compilers that use the 386's addressing ability. Now I am in the market for one. I need it to run under DOS. I will probably be buying the Compaq 386. The project does various I/O including MIDI via an MPU-401 and graphics. The graphics are on EGA and Targa boards. The graphics package I have used thus far is Halo, so a compiler that can be used with Halo is highly desired. Low level I/O routines are highly desired too, as well is compatibility with Turbo C or Microsoft C or Lattice C. 1) What are the various brands? 2) What have your experiences been? 3) Which do you think is best? Qualify this with the purpose it is best for. 4) Please don't respond after February 18. By item number 4, I am trying to limit the number of people who respond redundantly. If you are reading this message after Feb 18, someone has probably responded by now but THANK YOU. Thank you to those who respond to me either to the net or by email. The addresses below should work, as should the address in the header of this message. The below ones are preferred, however.
