I recently wrote a terminal emulator that runs in EGA graphics mode. It is a fairly simple thing. It emulates a VT100. It runs in video mode 16 (640 x 350, 16 color). I display characters myself. I have a font editor so I can create fonts. But, I wanted to get some public domain fonts so I wouldn't have to make a lot of fonts which is a bitch. Anyway, I got a hold of some Amiga PD font files and thought I would convert them to my file format. I asked around and found that about the only place to find info on the Amiga font file was in _Transactor_for_the_Amiga_. So, I got that. And sure enough, there is the information. Wow. These things are complex. Looking at the thought that is placed just in the font files for the Amiga is amazing. I am a PC hacker that has been impressed with the Amiga from the beginning. Looking at this magazine and listing to the dialog on this newsgroup about how to make MSDOS act like a multitasking operating system, makes me wonder, "why even mess with MSDOS?". Buy an Amiga. I wish I had spent my money on one instead of my clone XT. I hope that Microsoft and IBM get the Presentation Manager in OS/2 1.1 right. It took the Amiga and HAM mode to show the affordable micro world what imaging was all about. I hope the Presentation Manager isn't something that will give Amiga owners something to laugh about like the first release of the RT gave the 32 bit workstation community. Nothing against PC, XT, AT, etc, but I must listen to Amiga users everyday, and now I am beginning to agree with them. Unfortunately, I look at single-tasking MSDOS everyday, also. It's my job... I am stating only my observations and not those of my employer.
