My Seagate ST251 just died after approximately 800 power-on hours, two months out of warranty. (I'm sooo glad ST251s have a 20,000 hour MTBF.) It works just great from a cold start, but only for five minute. Anyway, I'm soliciting advice on repair vs. replace. The February issue of Computer Shopper has the following ads for repair services: JB Technologies Inc. p114 21011 Itasca St. #F Chatsworth, CA 91311 (818) 341-2935 Disk Drive Repair Inc. p260 8220 Nimbus Beaverton, OR 97005 (503) 626-7104 Independent Technical Service p274 21610 Lassen St, Ste 6 Chatsworth, CA 91311 (818) 882-7747 Peripheral Repair Corp. p375 9233 Eton Ave. Chatsworth, CA 91311 (818) 700-8482 Compco p402 8016 Remmet Ave. Canoga Park, CA 91304 (818) 703-6036 Ontrac Data p402 23352-H Madero Mission Viejo, CA 92691 (714) 859-6723 Brockway Disk Technologies Inc. p402 1144 Industry Dr. Seattle, WA 98188 (800) 322-8234 Any comments on good or bad experiences? JB Technologies is already getting bad press in the "Hi Tech Asset Recovery, A Warning" notestring. Larry Rupp (LER@HPFCLA.HP.COM)

I went through this problem last month. Using a list from the net, I called all of them, got time/$$ estimates and settled on Peripherial Repair Corp in Chatsworth. My drive was back to me in 7 days for the lowest price of all the ones I called. I'll say I'm a happy customer of theirs. Bob
