[comp.sys.ibm.pc] PC Binaries & Sources by US Mail

wnp@dcs.UUCP (Wolf N. Paul) (02/10/88)

At the suggestion of several people on the net, I am expanding my offer
to send out on diskette binaries/sources which have been posted to USENET.

You can now send me a blank, formatted disk and a post-paid return mailer
to receive any one of the following:

1. UUPC Sources for Atari ST, Amiga, Macintosh, and MS-DOS;
   UUPC Binaries for MS-DOS

This is a public domain implementation of the UNIX uucp protocol and
   mail program.

2. PICNIX 2.0 Binaries only for MS-DOS

This is a set of UNIX look-alike utilities for MS-DOS computers. The author
offers source code for $30, but unfortunately he is no longer at the address
   given in the DOCS.

If anyone knows the whereabouts of Peter Stephen Heitman, please let me know.

3. MS-Kermit 2.30 Binaries & Manual

This is the latest official release of Kermit for PC-compatibles. Major new
   feature is Tektronix terminal emulation.

4. Archive Utilities for MS-DOS computers

I have assembled the following programs which should make it easier to
deal with source/binary postings from USENET:

        PR.ARC PR utility w/source
        ARCE.COM Unpack PKARC (squashed) archives
        ARC.EXE Standard SEA Archiver
        FIND.ARC UNIX-like find command w/source
        DETAR.EXE Unpack UNIX tar archives
        SHAR.ARC Create/Unpack UNIX shar archives (w/ source)
PCPATCH.ARC Binaries for ed, diff & Larry Wall's patch
PDTAR.EXE Public Domain TAR (John Gilmore/GNU)
TAR.EXE Tar which can write to raw diskettes
        COMPRESS.ARC UNIX-compatible compress (w/sources)

When sources for the PCPATCH package are posted to USENET,
they will be added to this collection.

I can handle 360K and 1.2M DOS-formatted 5.25 inch diskettes, as well as
720K DOS-formatted 3.5 inch diskettes. I am unable to format 1.2M disks,
so make sure you send a formatted disk.

I can also write tar or cpio archives to raw floppy disk (5.25 inch only),
using a Microport System V/AT system. I believe that these disks are
readable on Xenix 286 systems, and on 386 UNIX systems; I do not know which
other systems would be able to read these disks.

Each of the four packages requires one 360K disk; a 720K disk can hold two
packages, and a 1.2M disk can hold all four.

Please enclose a SELF-ADDRESSED, STAMPED return mailer. If you do not live
in the United States, please enclose two international reply coupons available
from your post office.

If you have any questions, feel free to send me e-mail.
