Howdy NetLanders!
I have a Tek 6130 ( Tektronix-made Unix engineering workstation)
with many peripherals, most importantly a 60MB Streamer tape drive.
This tape drive was manufactured by WangTek and interfaces to the
workstation SCSI bus and Adaptec 4010 controller. The adaptec is
a SCSI to QIC-36 controller.
A couple of months ago, I purchased a AST Premium 286 Model 140,
(Great machine by the way...) and have been wrestling with the
concept of backing up my PC. I don't see any reason to go out
and spend a kilo-buck on a tape streamer drive backup unit, when I
have a perfectly good streamer sitting on my workstation.
Since I already have a workstation running Unix, I plan to continue
running MS-DOS on my PC.
I would like to know if there is a product for the PC which will
allow me to use my existing streamer tape for backing up my PC's
40MB hard disk.
The nitty-gritty is, I need
(1) a SCSI board to plug in my PC, and
(2) the appropriate software for backups which will support my
tapedrive on a SCSI bus.
(3) SCSI board pin out information. (in case the SCSI cables I have
won't work)
(4) Infor on a SCSI switch?!? (to switch between the workstation
and PC)
If anyone has info (mfg's, pricing, etc) on any of the above-listed items,
I'd really appreciate hearing from you.
Please Respond by E-mail. I'll post a summary if response warrants
it.
Thanks in Advance
