Here is the result of the PD/Shareware Communications Program Survey: # Name Version # Votes --------------------------------------------- 1) ProComm 2.4.2 10 2) MS-Kermit 2.30 4 3) GT PowerComm 13.00 1 MS-Kermit 2.27 1 PibTerm 4.0.6 1 Not nearly as many answers as I had hoped for, but I will repeat this survey later this year, to see what effect ProComm Plus has, and I will probably include commercial software, instead of just PD/Shareware. ProComm: Likes: Reliable, good script language, good file transfer protocols, fast, good terminal emulations, menu-driven, good dialing directory Dislikes: ZModem not built in, some terminal emulations incomplete, no background file transfers MS-Kermit: Likes: Good terminal emulation (incl. TEK 4010), good documentation, many versions for different machines, good support Dislikes: No support for sliding windows GT PowerComm: Likes: Activity Log, dialing directory PibTerm: Likes: Good script language, complete transfer protocols, fully public domain Dislikes: Lack of documentation ============================================================================ Brian O'Neill University of Lowell boneill@hawk.cs.ulowell.edu - boneill@hawk.UUCP ..!ulowell!hawk!boneill
