I've recently upgraded my copy of Fastback from 5.14 to Fastback Plus 1.0. The new program has many enhancements and a lot of work has been put into the user interface. I have however, noticed the following problems: Fastback Plus when backing up to floppy disks will begin overwriting a disk already mounted in the machine. The original fastback required you to physically reload the disk. While the new behaviour is documented, I prefer the former approach. When I attempted to reload a complete hard disk from a backup, all files were placed in the root directory and the original directory structure was lost. I eventually corrected the options and got my disk reloaded properly but the default options for reload did not seem to be correct. When doing another restore Fastback Plus on two occassions reported errors 48, 43, 46 and 47. The gist of these errors is that the floppies containing the backup are partially unreadable or were inserted in the drive in the wrong sequence. However, I was restoring FROM a hard disk at the time and I am confident the hard disk is working properly. Fastback Plus seems to be unable to restore files marked read only. I feel there should be an option available to enable this. Finally, any attempts to reach Fifth Generation Systems support line resulted in a busy signal. I don't mind waiting on hold a reasonable length of time but I do find it very frustrating to have to constantly re-dial with no ultimate success. It's my hope that these problems are typical of the glitches that appear in version 1.0 of anything and that they'll eventually be corrected. Fastback Plus certainly has lots of potential to be an excellent product. -- UUCP: {uunet|watmath|utai|garfield}!dalcs!aucs!wdw BITNET: WDW@Acadia Internet: WDW%Acadia.BITNET@CUNYVM.CUNY.EDU
