and another "NEW BOOK" pointer (on PC/MAC networking)
title: IBM PC and Macintosh Networking
(featuring TOPS and APPLESHARE)
author: Stephen L. Michel
publisher: Hayden (Macintosh Library Books)
First Edition: 1988
ISBN: 0-672-48405-6
Lib-of-Congress: 87-63172
list-price: $21.95
Just scanning the book, I am really impressed, how well the author covered
all the bases that will allow a relatively unsophisticated user to see all
the different, related topics. The author indicates that he was working with
(and covering the features of) the newly released version TOPS-2.
It is my impression that this is a most useful book to have, both for the
TOPS-network manager and user (as well as general Mac-fanatic), if for no
other reason than to lend it to the next person that comes to your office
with a networking question .... (-:
I hope someone else will add some critical comments about how well technical
details are covered - I am in no shape to do that.
One shortcoming I discovered however: MacServe is not even mentioned in the
book nor is Kermit (or other simple File-Transfer programs) - at least, they
are not in the (otherwise extensive) index ....
