Hi,
A while back I posted a message asking for help with the Turbo Pascal
4.0 .BGI driver format. This was in relation to a program called SurfModl
which I was upgrading to version 4.0 of Turbo Pascal.
No one could help me with the .BGI problem (I solved it another way) but
many people were asking for information on how to get Surfmodl. The program
is now finished and I returned it to the original author, Ken Van Camp.
He is now distributing it. The message below is from Ken to people on the
Surfmodl mailing list. It explains a bit about the new version of SurfModl
and tells how it is being distributed.
Surfmodl is a program for doing wire frame, wire frame with hidden lines
removed, and full surface model plots of three dimensional models. You
can also specify different shading methods for the surfaces, and multiple
light sources. The program works on MS-DOS microcomputers which support
the CGA, MCGA, EGA, VGA, Hercules, or AT&T graphics cards.
The program is public domain, and includes Turbo Pascal 4.0 source code.

-------------------- SURFMODL MESSAGE #12 (dated 3/1/88) ----------------
SURFMODL version 2.00c is finally here! This distribution was
really put together by Kevin Lowey, not me, and I think you will be as
pleased as I am with the professional job he did. Here's a brief synopsis
of the new features:
-- All known bugs have been fixed.
-- It has been converted to compile under Turbo Pascal 4.0.
-- It uses the Borland Graphics Interface (BGI) device independent graphics
to support the IBM CGA, MCGA, EGA, VGA and PC3270; AT&T 6300, and
Hercules cards. There is also limited support for the DEC VAXMATE.
-- Full support for all the graphics modes of these devices.
-- A new playback utility to allow replaying of SURFMODL screens that were
saved in files, for animation and "slide show" presentations.
-- More command-line options for batch file processing.
-- A new graphical preprocessor, SURFEDIT, for editing SURFMODL data files.
The three files to get from SIMTEL20 are:
Filename Type Bytes CRC
Directory PD1:<MSDOS.SURFMODL>
SURFM201.ARC.1 BINARY 257339 8D2CH
SURFM202.ARC.1 BINARY 137666 20CDH
SURFM203.ARC.1 BINARY 131327 BED4H
These files contain all source files and executables, as well as sample data
files and documentation.
Alternatively, Bitnet users may get these files from the Info-IBMPC
distribution maintained at CCUC@UMCVMB.BITNET by requesting the three files
SURFM201.ARC, SURFM202.ARC, and SURFM203.ARC. [I just sent these off to
Rich Winkel yesterday, so please allow him a couple of days to get it in
place. That's why this announcement is only going to the SURFMODL
distribution list for now, and I will wait a few days before posting to
info-ibmpc.]
Version 2.00c is also available on diskette, for those of you who
have trouble downloading electronically. The price is $12 for the three
disks, plus $2 postage/handling (continental U.S.) or $4 (p/h elsewhere).
So for $14 or $16 US, you can get all three of the SURFMODL release disks.

I will also continue to distribute two other versions of SURFMODL. Version
1.32 will be available (only from me directly) until the Sanyo MBC-55x and
Heath/Zenith Z100 are supported in the new release. The price for the 1.32
release is the same as for the current release ($12 US plus postage &
handling). However, you need only pay postage & handling once. Therefore,
you could get both releases for $26 within the continental US, or $28
elsewhere. In addition, I am also making available the source code to the C
version of SURFMODL on one diskette ($4 US). Note that this version only
runs on the Sun workstation under the NeWS windowing system, even though it
is being distributed on an MSDOS diskette.
With the new release, we also now have two volunteers to distribute
SURFMODL in Europe. Please note that I just mailed out the diskettes to
them today, so allow them at least a week before any orders will be filled.
Both of these sites will only have the most recent Pascal SURFMODL
distribution available.
