[comp.sys.ibm.pc] pkarc and uudecode have been posted

jrc@ritcv.UUCP (James R. Carbin) (02/29/88)

For those of you who need either the binary files for pkarc (& pkxarc) or
the Pascal source files for uuencode & uudecode, I have recently posted
them to comp.binaries.ibm.pc.

While the Pascal source files for uuencode & uudecode are obviously not
binary files, it seemed approriate to post them to that newsgroup as they
are essential for anyone wanting to obtain binary files from that group.
Please send any complaints relative to this decision to your local /dev/null.

     Enjoy!

At the risk of bringing down the wrath of those in power, could I humbly
request source for uuen/decode in C? Or is my impudence showing?

Can you say "RTFM yourself" before you belittle someone else's question?
Ah, well. There's an arzl in every crowd.

Tom, there is such an option, no need to make a patch to the exe. I find
this very useful, as I have had to rename PKARC to "ARC" (sacrilege!) in
order to work properly with ARCmail, and needed obsolete-version compat-
ibility 'cuz someone else downstream is probably still using the obsolete
version...

From the docs:

+PKARC Config File Option
+------------------------
+
+In addition to the command line compatibilty options, a
+configuration file for PKARC can be used to specify backwards
+compatibility modes. The following strings can be placed in the
+config file:
+
+SQUASH=ENABLE
+SQUASH=DISABLE
+ARCTIME=CURRENT
+ARCTIME=LATEST
+
+any other text in the config file will be ignored.
+
+The SQUASH= string enables or disables Squashing as described in
+the section "Compatibility Options". The default value is
+SQUASH=ENABLE.
+
+The ARCTIME= string specifies the datestamping method used. The
+default is ARCTIME=CURRENT.
+
+If necessary, the config file settings can be overidden with the
+command line compatibility options.
+
+The configuration file should be an ordinary ASCII text file, and
+be named PKARC.CFG. This file can be created with the COPY CON
+command or most editors or word processors that can save an ASCII
+file.
+
+PKARC can be told where to find the config file through DOS
+environment strings. PKARC searches the environment for the string
+PKARC.CFG=pathspec. For example, entering:
+
+SET PKARC.CFG=C:\UTILS
+
+at the DOS prompt, or in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file, will tell PKARC to
+look in the C:\UTILS\ directory for the file PKARC.CFG. If the
+string PKARC.CFG=pathspec is not in the DOS environment, PKARC will
+look in the current directory for the file PKARC.CFG.
