[comp.sys.ibm.pc] defective uuencoded files

larry@sgistl.SGI.COM (Larry Autry) (03/13/88)

Lately some of the binaries that have been posted cannot be uudecoded by my
*nix system. I have not changed my system in any way. Is anyone else
having this problem? The problem occurring is that I get the message
"short file". If the poster(s) is using a non-standard 'uuencode' program
then I suggest the person not post anything until the program is fixed.

One more reason for a moderator.

Often as not, that's a problem with one of the sites that passed the
traffic on to you. Some sites have limitations on the size of the
messages they can handle, and truncate anything too long. As
originally posted (and as received on other machines), the original
uuencoded file may be fine.
