[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Powering down my Compaq 386 w/type

If your power strip is wired correctly, shutting the switch off should
be sufficient. Turning it on is another story. If you have several
things powered by the same strip, when you turn the master switch on,
everything powers up at once. That's the time of maximum stress for
your electronics equipment - and also the time of maximum power line
noise. When you turn the equipment on, you induce voltage spikes into
the line, and they can cause damage or premature failure in other
equipment. To be safe, I'd turn everything on one item at a time.
