The newest LIST-OF-LISTS has just been posted to
net.news.group. The LIST-OF-LISTS is the annotated list of
ARPANET mailing lists. (ARPANET is that other network--
where Tim Maroney moved to get away from all the wombats.)
If you've never sent mail to other networks, please
talk to someone at your site before you try to subscribe to
any of these lists. UNC, for instance, receives ARPANET
mail via CSnet-- and we have to pay for it! Some sites are
on both ARPANET and USENET, but they're usually reluctant to
forward lots of mail. Also, many of the mailing lists
already appear in appropriate USENET newsgroups (e.g., AIList
goes into net.ai). So, please ask someone with more
experience before you subscribe.
