[] What the he** is net.general for anyway? One would think it is for items of general interest, (as the author sees it anyway.) Obviously there is always a special interest group, available to develop a given idea in detail. Net.general can be viewed as being like the Readers Digest. Don't you believe it, any attempt to use net.general that way results in a flood of hate mail from pedantic closet nit-pickers, (you know- the kind of people who undress in the closet with the lights turned off). As an experiment , anyone who successfully posts to, net.general with out receiving notices from the pedantic emotional eight year olds, Please repost , with the added note that the subject has passed the self appointed censors. Please excuse the flame like tone used above, it was written directly after receiving mail from 5 or 6 nerds in a 2 day period. I feel better now. danw ------------------- Which brings me to a related subject: The net is a new and experimental form of communication, with the promise (as with all 3'rd wave things) of remaking the world into a better place. This is only possible if the rational members succeed in keeping the destructive members in check. We have net.flame for those who get greater pleasure out of attacking the speaker than attacking the speakers ideas. So as to not only criticize without including a constructive proposal. Here is my suggestion: We form a moderated group net.flake Anyone who is so inclined , can send in a vote, the name of anyone who (in their opinion) is being disruptive, or uncivilized. It is also possible to send in a vote of confidence, if you feel a name appears on the list unjustly ( prevent the very people we are worried about from slandering others ) Then we write a filter, anyone who wishes to do so can add the name(s) of anyone they wish to their own filter file. The disruptive person will then seem to disappear forever. (no mail , or submissions from, that person will ever appear on your screen again) Comments anyone? danw (yes i know there is a group, to be used to propose the establishing of new groups!)
