I have a friend who is the Curator of a county museum a few miles north of San Francisco. She asked me whether there is any software out there for dealing with museum accessions. I told her that I hadn't the least idea, but that I would ask in this forum. Evidently there is a standard format, called the Chenall System, with a standardized nomenclature and numbering system for handling the records of accessions of museum collections. My friend would like to know: 1) Is there any such software out there (commercial or Public Domain). 2) What machines and operating systems does it run on? 3) What does it cost (if anything)? 4) Does anyone have any experience with it. Please reply to me by e-mail, since I don't ordinarily monitor this newsgroup, or directly to her: Virginia Hotz-Steenhoven Curator Sonoma County Museum 425 7th Street, Santa Rosa CA 94501 (707) 579-1500 { If there is sufficient interest (more than 3 replies), I will post a summary to the net }. adTHANKSvance Sam'l Bassett -- Semantic Engineering for fun & profit. 34 Oakland Ave., San Anselmo CA 94960; DDD: (415) 454-7282 UUCP: {hplabs,ptsfa,lll-crg}!well!samlb; Internet: samlb@well.uucp Compuserve: 71735,1776; WU Easylink ESL 6284-3034; MCI SBassett -- Sam'l Bassett -- Semantic Engineering for fun & profit. 34 Oakland Ave., San Anselmo CA 94960; DDD: (415) 454-7282 UUCP: {hplabs,ptsfa,lll-crg}!well!samlb; Internet: samlb@well.uucp Compuserve: 71735,1776; WU Easylink ESL 6284-3034; MCI SBassett

There exists a society for the us of computers to catalog art. One of my old professors, Dr. Egon VerHeyan in the Art History department of the Johns Hopkins University (301-338-8000) was involved with it. -Ron
