[net.general] H.R. Giger's Works

iannucci@sjuvax.UUCP (iannucci) (11/29/84)

This may not be the perfect newsgroup in which to put this request,
but I could find no other. I would like to know if anyone knows where I can
get some sort of collection of the works of H.R. Giger (I'm pretty sure that's
the correct spelling). He's the artist who did the illustrations for the movie
'Alien' and the album cover of Emerson, Lake, and Palmer's Brain Salad Surgery.
He has also done some illustrations for the new movie 'Dune'. I like his work
very much, but have not been able to find it anywhere in collection form. I
seem to remember several years ago seeing such a book somewhere, but I have
no recollection at all of where that was. Thanks in advance.

I have a copy of the only published work I know from H.R. Giger, called
H. R. Giger's Necronomicon. It is an oversized paper-bound book containing
many of his works and some narration about his life. It includes many of his
"bio-mechaniods" and precursors to the monster he developed for "Alien".
The book mentions that when someone introduced him to the airbrush, he went
on a compulsive painting binge, filling all the canvases he had, then painting
all the interior walls of his house in Switzerland, and finally painting over
the insides of the windows when he ran out of wall space. The book is
trully gruesome and wonderful. If I had it here, I'd give more information
about publisher, etc. I found out about it originally through OMNI magazine.
