[comp.sys.ibm.pc] scsi controller wanted

phil@amdcad.AMD.COM (Phil Ngai) (03/29/88)

I'm looking for a board which plugs into a PC and lets me talk SCSI.
Ideally it would have a BIOS driver and whatever other software is
needed to allow me to use a SCSI disk such as the CDC Wren IV under
DOS. Any suggestions? I only know of one, the NCR. I haven't actually
used it, are there any nasty bugs I should watch out for?

 I love my VT-320.

Future Domain in Tustin, CA has a wonderful set of products for use with
embedded SCSI devices. They have a host adapter card for XTs and ATs
which theoretically works with all vendors SCSI controllers. They also
have a very nice OEM toolkit which allows you to write your own SCSI
drivers. I don't have their number handy, but you should be able to
get it from area code 714 information.

SCSI is a protocol, not a device. It's my experience that controller
manufactures do not implement the entire protocol. Particularly, PC
adapters don't seem to like being a SCSI target, just the initator.
Caveat Emptor; ask your vendor if your device will work with his
controller.
